Beasley Media Detroit Tour of WCSX/WRIF/WDMK/WMGC

The staff always takes advantage to tour radio properties in and around Metro Detroit. On October 7, 2019, the WBFH staff met in the lobby of Beasley Media Detroit in Ferndale to embark on a tour of some legendary radio broadcast properties.

Beasley owns four stations in the Detroit market: heritage rocker 101 WRIF, classic rocker 94.7 WCSX, throwback and hip-hop 105.1 The Bounce and its newest acquisition 105.9 Kiss FM.

The group makes its way through the lobby doors into the commons area.
Lauren Conn, executive assistant for Beasley Media, was the tour guide. Here, she is in the lobby of WRIF, giving some of the history of the station. As of 2019, it celebrates 48 years on the air in the same format of rock and roll.
The mark of a successful broadcast station is in its marketing plan. Here, Erik Aratari, WRIF promotions coordinator, brings his guests up to speed on what goes into a winning promotion.
The staff listens intently, posing questions in between the presentation.
Then, it was off to WRIF Master Control where Morning Producer Al Beck clowns in front of Biff staffers. Left to right: Mike DeFrancesco, Noelle Siwek, Elena Hirsch, Jack Brown, Chanon Stringer, Ryan Miskelly, Eddie Eichenhorn, Olivia Loveland, Jordan Banks, Bilal Mustaquim and Ilyaas Rasheed.
Al Beck fires off a station break during the Dave and Chuck the Freak morning broadcast.
WRIF producer Al Beck takes time out to describe what it takes to operate the equipment and keep the paperwork accurate as he runs the Dave and Chuck the Freak broadcast. Here, he shows the broadcast log where all the commercials are listed for playback.
Lauren Conn introduced the tour group to Ben Perez, WCSX marketing director and then shares a laugh. Ben marveled at the interest teenagers have in radio and revealed that Beasley Media has three stations rated in the Top 5 Nielsen Ratings: WCSX, WRIF and WMGC.
Then, it was off to the office of WCSX Program Director Jerry Tarrants. Jerry gave away a few trade secrets and told the staff to call on him for any questions they may have after leaving.
One of the many highlights of the tour was bumping into Nathan Bender ('03), who produces and hosts Beasley XP Esports, syndicated content for over 150 stations and happens to be a former Biffer! Here, he relates how the experiences he received at WBFH prepared him for the broadcast industry.
Nathan invited the staff into the Checkpoint XP studios to give them a flavor of what he does. He explains that the program began in his apartment in 2006 and has become so successful that he sold it to Beasley Media.
Nathan continues to field questions from another angle.
Lauren Conn finishes the presentation in the commons area with a call for any other questions. She confesses that The Biff staff is among her favorite tour groups to take through the building. She had just as much fun!
